Frequently asked questions
How much does a car key replacement cost?
There is no single price for a replacement car key. The cost depends on the type of key, your car make and model, and the programming the new key needs. Call us with your car details and we will confirm the price before any work begins.
Can a new car key be made if I have lost all my keys?
Yes, in most cases a new key can be made even when no working key is left. Tell us your car make, model and year and your registration number when you call. We will check what your car needs and explain the next step. Proof of ownership is needed before work starts.
Does a replacement key need programming?
Most modern car keys and fobs need programming so the car will accept them. The chip inside the key must match the car, and the buttons must work with the locks. We program the new key at your location and check the lock, unlock and start with you.
What proof of ownership do I need for a new car key?
You need your V5C log book, photo ID and car registration number. We ask for these before work starts so the key goes to the rightful owner. If your V5C is not to hand, call us first. We will tell you which other documents we can accept instead.
Can I get a spare car key before I lose my only one?
Yes, and it is a good idea. A spare key is made from your working key, at your home or work in Birmingham. Getting one now means you are not stuck if your only key is lost or stops working later. Call us with your car details to arrange it.
My key fob buttons have stopped working. Do I need a new fob?
Not always. A fob with dead buttons may need a new battery, a repair or a full replacement, depending on the fault. We check the fob at your location and tell you which option fits. If a repair is possible, we will say so before we suggest a replacement.
I have locked my keys in the car. What should I do?
Call us and tell us where the car is in Birmingham. We come to your location and unlock the car so you can reach your keys. If a child or pet is locked in the car, call 999 first, before you call us.
Do I need to go to a dealer for a replacement key?
No, you do not need a dealer visit. We are a mobile service and we come to your car in Birmingham. We supply and program the new key or fob at your location, so there is no towing and no dealer booking. Call us with your car details to start.
Which areas of Birmingham do you cover?
We cover Birmingham and the wider West Midlands, including the city centre, Edgbaston, Solihull and Sutton Coldfield. We come to your home, work or car park in those areas. If you are elsewhere in the West Midlands, call us and tell us where the car is.
